The Cape Otway Centre for Conservation Ecology

Conservation Ecology Fellowship

July 2010 Fellowship Applications are now closed. Please contact us if you are interested
in joining the next Fellowship round.

Spend one special week in the beautiful surrounds of Cape Otway. Acquire skills and knowledge which will enhance your study and optimise employment opportunities in conservation ecology and related fields - in Australia and across the world. Enjoy the company of people who share your passion for wildlife and the natural world!

The content of this course has been carefully designed by The Cape Otway Centre for Conservation Ecology founders, Lizzie Corke BSc (Zool) and Shayne Neal BSc (App)(NRM), and Ecological Research Manager, Dr Kellie Leigh (PhD).  The course content includes everything we wish someone had shared with us as we embarked on our own careers! From rescuing injured koalas and administering first aid to recording and identifying bat calls and interpreting a landscape for a group of visitors and capturing it all beautifully on camera - this course has it all!  The course will be presented by a range of experts, each one especially selected for their skills, knowledge and passion.

The Conservation Ecology Fellowship is specifically designed for people considering or embarking upon a career in conservation or having a love for the environment.  School leavers, GAP year students, undergraduates and recent graduates, as well as people considering a career change will particularly benefit from the hands on skills they will gain (these are skills which are required and expected in the conservation workplace but are not taught in universities!).  Indeed, anyone interested in the natural world will gain invaluable insight and experience.

Enthusiastic experts will introduce you to their own fields of interest and inspire you as they impart scientific facts and essential knowledge. Learning will be enhanced through hands on field sessions and excursions and delivery by keenly committed conservationists. What makes this Fellowship particularly special is the willingness of these experts to share the secrets they have learned through experiences, trial and error, lengthy observation and dedication.

You will acquire skills that will be useful and applicable in many aspects of your interest or  career –
